Library Social Media Statement
Social Media Statement
This statement defines acceptable use of social media for all users and administrators of the Library’s social media accounts and complements the College policies on electronic communication.
Use of social media resources by the Library supports the mission of the Library by helping faculty, staff, and students achieve academic success by promoting activities, sharing information, and opening dialogue. We recognize the importance of amplifying historically marginalized voices and believe that diversity, inclusion, and belonging are integral to our Saint Mary’s community and essential for fostering an environment where everyone feels valued.
The Library is not responsible for content posted by subscribers in any forum, message board, or other social media resource, and such subscriber comments do not reflect the opinions and/or positions of Saint Mary’s College Library. While we welcome comments, the Library account is moderated and account administrators will remove postings that include slurs or other hateful speech, personal attacks, or abusive language, or that infringe on confidentiality, privacy, or civil and respectful discourse. This moderation may be immediate or retrospective.
Current students’ interactions on the Library's social media channels are subject to the College’s Student Code of Conduct, and posts in violation will be reported to the Office of Student Life. College faculty and staff activities on social media resources are subject to the Faculty Handbook and the Employee Conduct and Responsibilities outlined in the Staff Handbook, as may be applicable.
To remain consistent with the Library’s views on privacy, any images posted of people in the Library will have their identities obscured unless permission has been given by the individual(s) pictured. Individuals may ask the Library to remove photos of themselves at any time by contacting the Reference Desk.
When sharing others' material, we always credit original sources and/or have gained permission. We expect others sharing our content to credit us appropriately, as well.
